Generic toothpaste tubes are made from a combination of materials, often including an interior aluminum liner, which makes them very difficult or impossible to recyclable. On their own, they will take about 500 years to decompose.
Not only are plastic toothpaste tubes bad for the environment, but up to 10% of the toothpaste can be left in the tube when you think it's empty, and most people use more paste than is recommended by dentists.
Terra Cycle offers a free recycling program for dental products, but reducing your waste is far better than recycling - so toothpaste tablets with compostable packaging is the clear ecological winner!

Cinnamon Tablets: Xylitol, Dicalcium Phosphate, Natural cinnamon flavour, Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Cinnamomum Cassia Bark.
Bubblegum Tablets: Xylitol, Dicalcium Phosphate,

Spearmint Tablets with Fluoride:
Medical Ingredient: Sodium Fluoride 0.2% w/w

Works just like toothpaste!
1) Pop one tablet in your mouth.
2) Crush the tablet with your teeth, but do not swallow.
3) Brush as usual with a wet toothbrush.
The tablet sizes are consistent with dentist recommendations for the amount of toothpaste to use.
Please make sure to compost the certified compostable package when you're finished!

I first ordered samples and enjoyed the convenience.. The spearmint was too intense for me so I ordered full size Bubble Gum flavour. I took it with me when I went to humid/rainy Vancouver Island. Even with a dehumidifier in the bathroom, the integrity of this package caused them to break down and no longer individual tablets. This was my first full sized pack and I am assuming that this happened because of the damp conditions. Maybe there is a time limit once it is opened that this could happen anyway.
Hi Sheena, Thanks for your review! I'm sorry to see that the tablets absorbed so much moisture on your trip. The packages are air and watertight if the zipper is closed correctly, but unfortunately they're similar to a box of crackers and will get soft if exposed to humidity.
You never have to try to squeeze out the rest of the tube contents like you do with 'regular' toothpaste. You just chew one tablet and brush! Also can be taken in carry-on luggage :) And the packaging is compostable! I like the spearmint flavour.
I love these toothpaste tablets, I hate toothpaste, the whole minty fresh thing is not my thing but these have a lovely feel, taste and texture, my favourite are the cinnamon, it leaves my mouth feeling clean and fresh!

Made the switch from another tabs brand, and Change is far superior. The tabs dissolve completely leaving no powder or grit. Truly a pleasant brushing experience without the waste. Also love that they're made in Canada. I'm converted and not looking back!
Just tried these for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. When you crunch one up and start to brush with a wet toothbrush, it really does lather up and feel just like brushing with regular paste. Teeth felt clean and fresh afterwards. I'm making the switch!
