Safety razors are a reusable product that's built to last, unlike typical plastic models. With proper care, a safety razor can last a lifetime.
Using a bar soap instead of shaving foam is both healthier for you due to the soaps natural ingrdients, and refuses the additional resourses needed for packaging and ultimately the garbage they produce.

How to Use a Safety Razor
For an indepth video, check out this Gentleman's Gazette video.
1) Take a hot shower, use a hot towel, or rinse your skin with hot water to make your hair soft.
2) Wet your shaving brush, and lather up the shaving soap bar in the bowl. Alternatively, lather up your shaving soap bar as you would with normal bar soap.
3) Using a mirror and your safety razor with a sharp blade, pull your skin tight and hold your razor at a 35-40 degree angle.
4) Shave in the direction that your hair grows with gentle, short and slow passes with your blade at a 90 degree angle.
5) Rinse your blade as required, and feel free to apply more shaving lather. The more, the better.
6) For your second pass, you'll shave across the grain of your hair growth.
7) If you have very thick hair, reapply your lather and do a third pass against the grain of your hair growth.
8) To finish shaving, rinse your face with cold water and pat dry. Thoroughly rinse your razor and shaving brush clean, then allow to air dry on the shaving stand.
